Chartiers Valley Primary School Recognized for PBIS Excellence
Chartiers Valley Primary School is once again setting the standard for positive school culture. The school is poised to earn recognition from the MTSS Implementation Forum for sustained fidelity at Tier 1 for the fourth consecutive year and, for the first time, is also slated to receive acknowledgment for fidelity across all three tiers of PBIS( Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) the following year.
PBIS is a framework designed to teach, reinforce, and support positive behavior in schools. At the Tier 1 level, all students receive explicit lessons on what it means to be a Super Colt, the school’ s hallmark of character and citizenship. Students are guided in following the school-wide rules of Being Safe, Being Responsible, and Being Respectful, and they participate in lessons and activities that foster essential traits such as gratitude, compassion, independence, integrity, perseverance, and inclusion.
A Culture of Consistency and Care
The recognition from the MTSS Implementation Forum reflects Chartiers Valley Primary School’ s consistent, school-wide commitment to positive behavior. By combining Tier 1 universal lessons with structured Tier 2 and 3 supports, the school ensures that students not only learn what it means to be safe, responsible, and respectful, but also receive tailored guidance to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Through dedicated staff collaboration, parent involvement, and a structured system for interventions, Chartiers Valley Primary School exemplifies how a school community can teach, reinforce, and celebrate positive behavior while supporting every student’ s growth.
“ Our ultimate goal is to help every child develop the skills they need to succeed, not just in school, but in life,” said Dr. Stepko.“ The Super Colt framework gives students a clear, consistent path to do that, while our tiered supports make sure no one is left behind.” hartiers Valley CHARTIERS VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS
Celebrating
Positive Behavior
Students who demonstrate these behaviors earn Super Colt tickets, which are randomly selected each week by PTG parent volunteers for Colt prizes. In addition, Principal Power Picks highlight exceptional students at every grade level, creating school-wide recognition for those who embody Super Colt values.
“ The Super Colt Ticket system allows every member of staff to quickly and specifically reward students for positive behavior. For example, when I see a student help a friend through the breakfast line, I can give that student a ticket that specifies responsible behavior in the cafeteria. The ticket system gives me lots of opportunities to connect with students and let them know they are seen and valued.”— Bethany Ward, School Counselo
