SPONSORED CONTENT T BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT his October marked the third anniversary of My Favorite Sweet Shoppe, and proved to Pittsburgh that the corner candy store business is not a relic of the past. They’ve done it by not just offering customers a huge selection of nostalgic candies that bring back memories of childhood, but by creating new memories with their selection of gourmet caramel apples, homemade fudge, gelato and hand-dipped chocolates. “Coming here is like walking back in time to an old-fashioned candy store. We have the copper ceiling, the wood floor and a homey and comfortable atmosphere,” said Nina Midgley, owner. “The moment you step in, you can see all of the unique things we make and we make everything right in the front of the store, so customers can watch.” With imaginative dipped apples like the Pie Apple—loaded with caramel, white chocolate, brown sugar and cinnamon—and delectables like Mountain Bark, a Peanut Butter Chocolate Rice Krispy Treat, and Stuffed Pretzels—pretzels with holes filled with peanut butter, Nutella or fluff prior to a bath in dark chocolate, you’re sure to find something for even the most discerning sweet tooth. My Favorite Sweet Shoppe even has a few tables inside and bench seating outside so customers can stay a while to either watch the candy being made or to enjoy their treats before getting on with their day. And, if you’re looking to bring the party to you, My Favorite Sweet Shoppe delivers everything available in the store plus offers access to its chocolate nacho and taco bars where you can mix and match a variety of sweet and salty dips and toppings to your heart’s content. While catering your office party, wedding or other event does require some notice - four to six weeks is recommended - smaller gatherings can be prepared as needed. Special orders, those requiring specialty chocolates or ingredients, require about eight weeks to allow for delivery. But in most cases, everything regularly offered at My Favorite Sweet Shoppe is sourced locally or as locally as feasible. Perhaps the best part about My Favorite Sweet Shoppe is that every idea is a great idea, and Nina and her team are up for entertaining any combination of flavors you can come up with. “That’s how we get a lot of our items—either by t he team having ideas or guests coming up with things,” Midgley said. “We have a great team here that’s really creative and we come up with ideas amongst ourselves. But our customers are just as creative and we love that. We want to be that place where you can feel like a kid again and ask us to put together a crazy idea that tastes wonderful.” Aside from being a part of the Bridgeville community, My Favorite Sweet Shoppe is also part of the fabric of Western Pennsylvania. Midgley and her team volunteer in the community and the store regularly supports numerous charities and causes close to their hearts. They’ve accomplished a lot in three years, but the best, Midgley said, is yet to come.
