The Kids Triathlon started out as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh but has become so much more than that over the past 13 years. While it remains Habitat’ s major fundraising effort to raise money to build houses for people in need of affordable, decent housing, it also gives kids a fun and energy-burning activity in the summertime! A Star Party is an invitation to anyone wishing to enjoy and learn more about the splendors of the sky. Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh members set up a wide variety of telescopes( basic and advanced models) and offer visitors stunning close-ups of celestial objects. Many visitors also bring their own telescopes to take advantage of viewing conditions at the site. Others use the occasion simply to view the stars and planets with their own eyes. Spend some time with your kids in nature and learn something new! The Lost Ladybug Project tracks the changing ladybug species distribution across North America. Over the past 20 years several native ladybugs have become extremely rare, ladybugs from other places have greatly increased their numbers and range, and some ladybugs are simply found in new places. Join the OC staff in finding out where all the ladybugs have gone so people can try to prevent more native species from becoming so rare. This session will teach participants how to identify different species of ladybugs and submit what they find to scientists. $ 5.00 per family. Visit the website for more information.
