WHAT’ S NEWS IN CHARTIERS VALLEY
CHARTIERS VALLEY GRAD AT THE 2026 OLYMPICS! When Scott Township native Tom Wallisch won gold at the Winter X Games held in Aspen, Colorado, in 2012, it was the highest score in Slopestyle skiing history. He also set a world record in 2016, for a 424-ft. rail grind.
Slopestyle skiing looks almost like CGI( computer-generated imagery) with moves seemingly impossible for any human being to perform. The skiers do twisting jumps off of ramps and then“ ride the rails” doing even more amazing tricks.
Wallisch was a master at the sport and his notable expertise landed him a career as a color commentator, including at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics with NBC. We look forward to hearing more of his expert commentary for future events!
EVERYTHING SCOTTISH!
Many area residents have Scottish roots that run deep. You can celebrate this heritage at the Pittsburgh Tartan Day event on Saturday, April 11, at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Bethel Park.
It is sponsored by St. Andrew’ s Society of Pittsburgh and commemorates the signing of Scotland’ s Declaration of Independence. This year’ s event will also celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, and of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
The fun begins at 10 a. m. and runs until 4:30 p. m., with free admission and parking. There will be many vendors selling Scottish memorabilia, information on clans, workshops, great food, raffles, and entertainment, including of course, bagpipers!
The proceeds benefit the St. Andrew’ s Society Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit standrewspittsburgh. org.
