BOWER HILL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES 100 YEARS !
The Bower Hill VFD has been answering the call to care on cold , dark nights since 1924 . A 100th anniversary banquet was held Jan . 27 at Cefalo ’ s to mark this important milestone .
There is a wonderful short documentary film relating the history of the fire company on the website , bowerhillfire . com . In the film , several longtime members are highlighted , with each telling their story . Bob Berdnik has been a member of Bower Hill VFD for 69 years and describes it as “ the greatest pleasure he ’ s ever had ” to serve . His father was also a member and president of the company . Many women are featured as well , having been a part of the fire service since the 1960s .
Follow the Facebook page for upcoming events related to the anniversary , but also any fundraising events the department will hold . The average cost of a fire truck is approximately $ 1.3 million . Training for firefighters also requires funding . If you can help by attending a fundraising event , or making a donation , it greatly supports the fire department in serving the community .

JUSTIN WATSON ’ S THIRD SUPER BOWL !
Kansas City wide receiver Justin Watson has now been to the Super Bowl three times ! Justin was born in Bridgeville , and his father , Doug , works in the area .
As a very young player , Justin wasn ’ t able to see time on the field in his first Super Bowl as part of the Tampa Bay team . But in 2023 as a Kansas City Chief , he was there for more than 60 % of the offensive plays and was able to contribute to the Chiefs ’ win . This year , in Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers , he contributed 54 yards to the Chiefs offense with his receptions , including some clutch plays .
According to his father , Justin and his wife , Erica , do a lot of charitable work to help their community in Kansas City , and Justin also supports his alma mater ’ s football team in South Fayette . He is a great role model for all young athletes .
