INDUSTRY INSIGHT YOUR FITNESS SPONSORED CONTENT 4. I hate exercise! Well this one can be a challenge, and the truth of the matter is that most people don’t really love it. But these days there are so many options that can make it fun. Find a good friend to join you. Whether it’s a boot camp, a spinning class, Zumba, or yoga, there is something available for EVERY BODY! If you have physical limitations that make it difficult, check with your doctor and then find a knowledgeable personal trainer who doesn’t worry about what you can’t do, but will figure out what you CAN do and offer moral support throughout your experience. Results or Excuses – You Can’t Have Both. Overcoming the Top 5 Exercise Excuses. By Lisa Troyer It’s springtime. Summer is just around the corner, and along with summer comes bathing suits and less clothing. It’s time to get busy. What is keeping you from working out? Not enough time, too tired, it’s boring? The list is lengthy and even though this article will only debunk the top five, I have an answer for all of them. There is a solid solution for everything, so get ready to get motivated. 1. I don’t have time to exercise! This one will always be #1. Life is busy and it certainly can be challenging to get a workout in. But everyone is busy, so “not having the time” doesn’t really hold water. My early-morning group fitness classes are jammed and my 6:00 a.m. training clients are there like clockwork. These people are some of the busiest people around, but they set their alarms and get it done. They are getting workouts in before their bodies even know what hit them. They probably don’t get in much late-night reading or television, but exercise is a priority. 5. Exercise is so boring! You just need to find an activity that you love. It really doesn’t have to be unpleasant. If it makes it more enjoyable and helps to pass the time, watch TV or read while on an exercise bike, treadmill, etc. As long as you challenge yourself, you are reaping all of the physical and mental benefits. Continue trying new things to alleviate boredom. We have all told ourselves dozens of times that tomorrow we are going to start. Then tomorrow comes and goes. It’s time that we face our excuses head on, overcome them and start living that healthier lifestyle. Just a few benefits from exercise are lower body fat, reduced risk of many diseases, stress relief, better bone density, reduced risk of injury and the list goes on. It won’t be easy, but it will sure be worth it. Results, not excuses! This Industry Insight was written by Lisa Troyer. Once you get moving and get your circulation going, your body creates feel-good hormones called endorphins. If you’re just not a morning person, that is OK; do it whenever you feel your best. Lots of people prefer to exercise right after work. Or if you’re lucky enough to squeeze it in the middle of the day, do it! 3. I’m so tied down with kids! I remember when my kids were little and there was some kind of a practice every night. The moms would walk briskly around the perimeter of the soccer field. I have seen the best Instagram videos of fit moms working out while their children were playing at the playground. Take them for bike rides, have family “fun runs,” get out the Wii Fit. When parents are more fit, they have more energy and the whole family benefits. Plus it’s just good old family quality time. Chartiers Valley | Spring 2016 | icmags.com 13
