WHAT’S NEWS IN CHARTIERS VALLEY
COLLIER COMES TO THE
RESCUE FOR GLASS
RECYCLING IN THE
COMMUNITY
With glass recycling no longer an
option with contracted haulers, the Collier
Township Commissioners weighed the
options of providing enhanced recycling
services at a public meeting in April. As a
result, Collier entered into a partnership
with the Pennsylvania Resources Council
to host glass recycling events in the
township. So far, there have been spring
and summer glass recycling events that
allowed both residents and non-residents to
properly dispose of glass items. The events
are held on certain Saturdays throughout
the year, usually from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We wanted to be able to continue to
provide a service to our residents that was
taken away from them abruptly,” Collier
Board President George Macino said. “The
program also helps Collier continue to
meet its goal of being a forward-thinking
and eco-friendly community.”
Glass collected at these events is sent
primarily to glass mills in Pennsylvania and
neighboring states, and is used to make beer
and liquor bottles, pickle and mayonnaise
jars and many other consumer products.
Collier is committed to continuing
to provide this service to its residents
and the region and looks to hold more
glass recycling events in the future. For

DUNK TANK DAY!
Residents, family members and staff
of Bridgeville Rehabilitation and Care
Center were full of anticipation leading

up to Dunk Tank Day, where several
coworkers were nominated to get “Dunked
for a Cause.” The money was being raised
to reach a team goal of $5,000 for the
Alzheimer’s Association.
Ian Ashbaugh, Certified Recreation
Therapy Specialist, was first in the tank.
Kathleen Le Guern-Duckett, Director of
Therapy; Stacie Motosicki, Recreation
Assistant; and Kim Uzonyi, Director of
Recreation, were in the lineup to take the
plunge before a big storm rained out the
event. The residents of 3590 Washington
Pike in Bridgeville, however, packed the
front porch and cheered as they took turns
throwing balls and snacking on funnel
cakes and corn dogs.
Heritage Hospice supported the event by
providing Rita’s water ice and a sponsorship
donation.
There have been several creative attempts
by the staff of BRCC to raise money. They
divided into eight teams and raised over
$3,000 collectively in various ways such
as serving pancakes, special lunches in
“Paradise,” coffee café days, raffle baskets,
and pretzel sales. The dunk tank fundraiser
helped boost their total to nearly $4,000.
“I believe we can reach our goal by our
Oct. 15 deadline!” said Uzonyi. “Our hearts
are very near to those who suffer with
the Alzheimer’s dementia disease, their
caregivers, families and friends. Raising
awareness, support, educating, and raising
money is not all that we do. At BRCC, we
strive each day to connect with those who
have Alzheimer’s and their families at our
facility with compassion, understanding
and opportunities to help them live their
lives knowing that they are important and
cared for.”
On Oct. 16, Bridgeville Rehab &
Care Center will host its annual “Walk
icmags.com
the Block” event indoors for staff and
families who cannot be at a Walk to End
Alzheimer’s site. If you wish to support
the team effort, you may donate at
