COLLIER’ S WARD HOME RECEIVES $ 20,000 GRANT FOR HEALTH AND WELL- BEING PROGRAM FOR AT- RISK FOSTER YOUTH
Ward Home, Inc. has received a $ 20,000 multiyear grant from the Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation to improve the health of atrisk foster teens and young adults served by the 112-year-old human service agency.
Funding from the grant will go toward Ward Home’ s Health and Well-Being Enhancement Program, which teaches at-risk foster teens and young adults the importance and value of living a healthy lifestyle, including nutritious cooking and the importance of physical exercise.
Through the Health and Well-Being Enhancement Program, foster teens learn that eating healthier foods and achieving physical fitness goals can become a way of life, allowing them to go on to be healthy adults.
“ Thanks to the support of the Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation, our foster teens are learning that healthy living can be fun,” said Ward Home Executive Director Bill Wolfe,“ and also a better way of life for them and their future family.”

September is Love Your Library month – all gifts to the Bridgeville Public Library made from Sept. 1 to Sept. 30 will be matched by a donation from the Jack Buncher Foundation. The library will be celebrating all month long, so stop in or check the website for updates.

Consecrated Dust: A Novel of the Civil War North is a work of historical fiction illustrating what life was like in Pittsburgh, in 1862 and bringing to light the real- life catastrophe that took place on September 17th at the Allegheny Arsenal, where 78 girls perished in an explosion while they were hard at work rolling bullet cartridges for the Union Army.
5th Annual Chuck Falletta Memorial Dog Walk Saturday, Oct. 7, 10 a. m.
The Bridgeville Public Library is excited to once again host the Chuck Falletta Memorial Dog Walk honoring the life of Chartiers Valley High School graduate Chuck Falletta, a lifelong animal advocate and book lover. This fun, family event features raffles, face paint, and, of course, DOGS! Beginning at the library, attendees are encouraged to complete a one-mile loop through Bridgeville with their four-legged friend. Registration is $ 5 per dog with all proceeds benefiting the Bridgeville Public Library. Please contact the library for additional information.
Bulbs, Bulbs, Bulbs! with Master Gardener Joan Kugler AND Gardening Exchange Saturday, Oct. 14, 1 – 3 p. m.
Penn State Master Gardener, Joan Kugler will discuss planting bulbs for year-round blooms as well as the different types of bulbs available and how to plant them, among other topics. Optional: Stay for the Gardening Exchange to share and swap plants, gardening tools, and ornaments with other gardening enthusiasts!

Comics in 1942. Since that time she has been recognized as the foremost female superhero, influencing generations of creators and characters. Join us for a presentation of her history, the background story of her creation, and the ongoing story of her influence, both in comics and in the world. Presenter Wayne Wise is a comic book writer, artist, retailer, and scholar living in Pittsburgh. Ages 16 and up.

Storytime for preschoolers 4-5 years old. Join us for stories, songs and crafts.

Storytime / Playgroup for newborns to 24 months with an adult in attendance. Short stories, songs and finger plays lead into free play time with board books and toys for you and your child to enjoy.
MONTHLY CHILDREN’ S PROGRAMS American Girl Book Club First Thursday of each month, Sept. 7 – May 3, 6:30 – 7:30 p. m.
Girls in 2nd-5th grades are invited to join us for a book club based on the American Girl books. We will meet once a month for crafts, games and activities based on the book we have read. Books are on hold each month at the library. Dolls are welcome! Registration is required.
Block Party Second Tuesday of the month, Sept. 12 – Dec. 12, 10 – 11 a. m.
Little ones ages 2 – 6 and their families are invited to come play with the all-new universal block set from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries! Build math, science, language & social skills while they build with the 300-piece block set! Registration is required.
Lego Club Third Thursday of each month, Sept. 21 – May 17, 6:30 – 7:30 p. m.
Kids ages 7 – 12 are invited to join us for Lego Club. We will supply the Legos and theme each month, you bring the imagination! Registration is appreciated.
Chess for Kids Tuesdays, Sept. 12 – Nov. 21 Beginning Chess 6 – 7 p. m. Experienced Chess 7 – 8 p. m.
Children in kindergarten – eighth grade are invited to join Chess for Kids with local instructor Eric Berthoud. Each session will consist of a half-hour of instruction and a half-hour of play. Registration is required.
