THE NATIONAL AVIARY’S NEW
VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMPS
Interactive online camps connect kids to nature from
the comfort of their homes.
Operating out of an abundance of caution in response
to the COVID-19 crisis, the National Aviary is moving its
popular summer camps online in 2020. Virtual summer
camps allow for campers and their families to join in on the fun from all around the
world. They’ll view exclusive live and pre-recorded content, participate in handson
crafts and activities, and meet some of the National Aviary’s amazing birds, all
from the comfort of their own homes. This new format allows the National Aviary
team to immerse campers in behind-the-scenes, never-before-seen content –
opportunities that haven’t been offered before during the summer camps.
The National Aviary’s summer camp programs are open for ages 6 to 18. Under
the tutelage of a camp counselor, campers will participate in engaging activities
such as exploring a tropical rainforest through a habitat tour, watching a parrot
paint during a live meet-and-greet, and learning how to make a hummingbird
feeder.
They can even stay active during bird-inspired yoga!
Dates, Times, and Ages:
• July 13-17: 9 a.m. to noon
Ages 6-8: “Beaks, Wings, & Things” explores animal adaptations.
• July 20-24: 9 a.m. to noon
Ages 9-12: “Aviary Behind-the-Scenes” highlights how to run a zoo.
• July 27-31: 1 to 4 p.m.
Teen Camp – Ages 13-18: “Conservation Heroes” delves into bird and habitat
conservation efforts.
Exciting summer opportunities for campers to spread their wings with the
National Aviary are open for registration. Visit aviary.org/summer-camps or email
education.programs@aviary.org to register. National Aviary Summer Camps are
underwritten by Dominion Energy.
REMINDER: STATE
‘DO NOT CALL’ LIST IS
PERMANENT
A bill signed into law in 2019 amended
the state’s Telemarketer Registration
Act to remove a five-year time limit for
enrollment on the Do Not Call List for
residents. In addition, businesses can now
register to be included on the list.
The law also bans telephone
solicitations by telemarketers on legal
holidays and requires robocalls to start a
phone call with a clear way for recipients
to opt out of future calls.
There are some exceptions, including:
• Calls made by businesses to existing
customers or to consumers who
have conducted business with the
company in the past 12 months.
• Debt collection calls.
• Calls from charitable, fraternal, or
veterans organizations.
• Calls made on behalf of political
groups or candidates.
Anyone violating the law is subject to
a $1,000 penalty. That penalty increases
to $3,000 if the person being called is 60
or older.
To register on the state’s Do Not Call
List, visit attorneygeneral.gov/protectyourself/do-not-call-list/.
