8 Guests of the dinner party have differing political viewpoints; the Captain
interrupts the quarrel. 9 As the Von Trapp children say goodnight to the
dinner guests, they perform “So Long, Farewell.” 10 Mother Abyss closes the
first act of the performance with “Climb Every Mountain.” 11 Maria returns
to the Von Trapp villa and admits her love for Captain Von Trapp. 12 The
marriage and wedding celebration at the Abbey. 13 Members of the Third
Reich pay a visit in an attempt to intimidate Captain Von Trapp in his home.
14 The Von Trapp Family Singers perform in a competition in the city’s grand
concert hall, singing “Edelweiss,” bless my homeland forever. 15 As the Von
Trapp family escape into the mountains of Austria, the Sisters of the Abbey
offer prayers for their safety.
