Montour Musical
This spring, David E. Williams Middle
School in the Montour School District became
East High, as the 7th and 8th graders of the
middle school proudly presented “High School
Musical, Jr.”
With a cast and crew of approximately 85
and 20, respectively, the show was a major
success. The students did a phenomenal job
and they made it clear how much they enjoyed
themselves from the opening number to the
closing of the curtain.
The musical process began in October when
the students auditioned. Rehearsals then began
in mid-December for about two weeks then
picked back up at the beginning of January after
the students returned from the holiday break.
In a process like this, it is easy for the students
to become and feel like a family. Sitting in the
audience for the closing performance, you
could tell that the “family” was sad to see it end.
The talent in these kids is truly incredible.
The acting was believable, the voices were
outstanding, and the choreography was
spot on... things some may not expect to see
in a middle school production. One thing
for certain is the cast and crew received the
response they deserved. The show was sold out
for 3 of the 4 performances, and approximately
35 chairs were added to the back of the house.
Each performance ended with a standing
ovation from the audience... and the kids
deserved nothing less than that.
