EAST Edgewater at Oakmont By Gina Mazza S ometimes those of us who live in Pittsburgh take for granted that we have three scenic bodies of water interlacing our downtown region. Now, Heartland Homes offers an intriguing new way for urbanites to enjoy the three rivers. Meet the John Jacob Astor model, part of the Edgewater at Oakmont community. “The cool factor with this mixed-use community is that it’s situated right along the Allegheny River and has great river views,” says Matt Gilley, sales and marketing representative for Heartland Homes, builder of the John Jacob Astor model. (Kacin Development is the builder for the single-family homes in the community.) The 40-acre neighborhood occupies the site of the former Edgewater Steel Plant. It includes a common area with green space, walking/bike trails, and easy access to Oakmont’s charming, brick-paved business district along Allegheny Avenue. A concept brought up from the Washington, D.C., area by Heartland, these townhomes are massive as far as townhomes go: from 2,100 square feet for three bedrooms up to 3,500 square feet for five bedrooms. The colorful James Hardie plank board gives the development a vibrant, clean beach look. The minute you step inside the foyer that flows into an expansive great room with 10’ ceilings, it’s obvious that the John Jacob Astor doesn’t have a “townhome” feel. The wide-open living space lends it a contemporary feel. The heart of the home—the kitchen and dining area— includes more cabinet and countertop space than you’ll probably know what to do with. Upgraded appliances and countertops are optional. A completely open floor plan allows room for a family room and study. A deck off the kitchen adds to entertaining fun. 18 724.942.0940 to advertis H
