Most swimmers consider the butterfly stroke to be the most challenging among swimming styles. It requires muscles, endurance and a defined technique. Not surprising, it’s the preferred stroke of senior Katie Kozy, and she demonstrated it by setting a new school record when she competed in the 100-yard fly in the WPIAL championships at the University of Pittsburgh in early March. As a member of the Carlynton High School varsity swim team, she is the first female in school history to qualify for every WPIAL swimming event (11) in a single season. Kozy also helped to lead her team to its third consecutive section title this past season. A 13-year veteran swimmer, she got her start as a member of the Crafton Crocodiles and plans to continue her swimming career in college. Photo by Annemarie Bunch, Assistant Athletic Director.
