Attorney Michele Conti
Making Legal Services Affordable for All
Believing that the law is for everyone has been a drive for Attorney Michele Conti throughout her entire 14-year career, leading to clients ranging from children to senior citizens and everyone in between. She’ s a firm believer that legal services should be affordable to all, and accessible to all. And, in practicing what she preaches, she’ s one of the few working professionals in her field who actually makes house calls as opposed to making clients come to her.
“ Most people are intimidated by attorneys or they think,‘ I can’ t afford an attorney,’ or that they’ re not wealthy enough for the services of an attorney,” Conti says.“ People should feel comfortable with an attorney, and everyone should take advantage of what the law allows them.”
Some of her most common services, which everyone should have regardless of their station in life, include power of attorney assignments, estate planning and elder law advice— a focal point of her practice, along with tax law. But the truth is, people require certain legal protections at every stage of life that can protect them and their families in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
“ With people in their mid-30s who have families, their concern is mainly about the children:‘ Who’ s going to take over if something happens to me?’” Conti says.“ With my married clients, they don’ t realize that even though they are legally married, they cannot legally make a decision for the other person without the appropriate documentation in place. Without a power of attorney, for instance, they would have to go through many months and the cost associated with guardianship.”
From age 50 and up, clients are looking at services with regard to taking care of their aging parents and their own estate planning.“ A lot of my clients have been executors of their parents’ estates and know firsthand what a challenge that can be. And they don’ t want to put that burden on their loved ones,” Conti explains.“ It doesn’ t matter if they’ re married or single, having everything planned eliminates a lot of confusion and makes things easier on those you leave behind. I’ d rather my clients have the documents and not need them, rather than need them and not have them.”
Conti’ s practice also handles prenuptial agreements, special needs plans for children and adults, longterm care and Medicaid planning, IRA protection and caregiver agreements.
As a VA-accredited attorney, she is especially adept at helping veterans navigate the complicated avenues toward receiving entitled benefits that can defray their medical costs.
And, Conti is active with Passavant Memorial Homes’ Life Enrichment Trust, helping the intellectually disabled community to navigate legal matters unique to them. She’ s also a member of numerous Women’ s Business Networking groups and others that focus on women helping other women.
