Carlynton Welcomes
OFFICER DARREN FISHER
as School Police Officer
The Carlynton School District is pleased to welcome Officer Darren Fisher as the district’ s first School Police Officer( SPO). His appointment was approved by the Board of School Directors on June 3, 2025, following a rigorous search to identify a highly qualified individual for this vital role. The hiring of a School Police Officer reflects the district’ s continued commitment to fostering a safe, supportive learning environment for all students, staff, and community members.
Recent Pennsylvania legislation now requires all public school districts to have at least one full-time school security personnel on duty during the school day. Officer Fisher’ s experience, professionalism, and student centered philosophy make him exceptionally well suited to meet this mandate while advancing Carlynton’ s vision for school safety.
Officer Fisher most recently served as the Chief of Police for the Burgettstown Area School District, where he led a team of full and part time school security officers and coordinated closely with first responders across four municipalities. His leadership style emphasizes proactive safety practices, strong student relationships, and close collaboration with school personnel and families.
At the center of Officer Fisher’ s approach is relationship building. He is deeply committed to understanding and addressing the social, emotional, and academic challenges students may encounter, such as bullying, peer pressure, learning difficulties, and stressors that can arise from changes in home or personal circumstances. His work has consistently focused on prevention, open communication, and positive reinforcement as tools for fostering trust and connection with students.
He has been an active contributor to PBIS( Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and Student Assistance Program( SAP) teams, working in partnership with both school staff and community based agencies to support students and their families. Through these efforts, Officer Fisher has helped students develop essential life skills such as organization, time management, and study habits, empowering them for long term success.
As a key member of his former district’ s threat assessment team, Officer Fisher played an important role in identifying and responding to potential safety concerns with an emphasis on early intervention, discretion, and student well-being.
In addition to his school policing experience, Officer Fisher has served with the Stowe Township Police Department, the Pennsylvania Departments of Corrections and Revenue, and completed an assignment with the U. S. Secret Service; a background that gives him a well-rounded foundation in public safety and law enforcement.
As part of his transition to Carlynton, Officer Fisher will complete all required certifications and training, including those mandated by Act 67, Act 120, and the NASRO Basic School Resource Officer Course, ensuring full compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education regulations.
We are pleased to share that Officer Fisher is a 1991 graduate of Carlynton. His return to serve the district is a powerful reminder of our community’ s strength and shared values. We look forward to introducing Officer Fisher through upcoming school and community events as he officially begins his role this August.
He will be available to meet families and community members at our annual Back to School Celebration, scheduled for Friday, August 15 at Honus Wagner Stadium. Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Officer Darren Fisher, whose student centered mindset, extensive experience, and deep community roots make him an outstanding addition to the Carlynton family.
