North Strabane Township Winter Weather
As we prepare for the upcoming winter season, the Public Works Department wants to remind residents of our snow and ice removal policies. Your cooperation is critical in helping us keep the roads safe and clear for emergency vehicles and your neighbors.
Priority plowing routes Our plowing and salting operations are conducted according to a priority system to ensure the most critical routes are cleared first.
• Main roads, major arteries, and emergency routes are cleared first.
• Secondary roads, school bus routes, and developments are addressed next.
• Alleys and less-traveled residential streets will be cleared once the higher-priority routes are safely accessible.
Rules for residents
• To assist our Public Works crews, please follow these township ordinances and guidelines:
• Driveway clearing: Please wait do not shovel snow into the street. The plow will inevitably push snow into your driveway entrance; this is unavoidable. When shoveling, place the snow to the right or left side of your driveway to minimize the amount of snow pushed back by the plow.
Mailbox and hydrant safety
• Mailbox protection: To prevent damage, ensure your mailbox is securely installed and is positioned as far from the road as possible. The township is not responsible for mailboxes damaged by snow coming off the plow, as they are often located within the public right-of-way.
• Clear fire hydrants: If there is a fire hydrant near your property, please clear a 3-foot path around it within 24 hours after the snow has stopped. This can save critical time for first responders during an emergency.
With the holiday season quickly approaching, the North Strabane Twp. Police Department is preparing for our annual Shop with a Cop event this December!
Shop with a Cop is a community outreach program that pairs police officers with local children to help provide them with a brighter and more joyful holiday season. The program allows children to interact with officers in a positive and friendly environment, promoting trust and meaningful relationships within our community.
Shop with a Cop focuses on children from the North Strabane Township area who are facing significant life challenges such as financial hardship, unemployment, homelessness or the deployment or loss of a family member. Each participating child is given the opportunity to shop for gifts for themselves and their families – creating cherished memories and spreading holiday cheer.
Funding for Shop with a Cop comes entirely from community generosity. The program is supported by local businesses, organizations and individuals, as well as proceeds from our annual“ No Shave November” fundraiser. Every participating officer donates their time to ensure these children experience a holiday filled with kindness and joy.
We can’ t make this event possible without your support! Your donation – no matter the amount – directly impacts the lives of children in our community. Should you have any questions, please contact our office( Judy Miller) at 724.746.8474 or nspd @ nstpd. com.
