KEYNOTES MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION 2024
Keynotes is accepting applications for its 2024 music scholarship competition , which will be held May 11 at the Fine Arts Theatre of Mt . Lebanon High School . Cash awards totaling more than $ 16,000 will be available .
Requirements are that instrumentalists must be under 26 years of age by June 1 , 2024 , and vocalists must be under the age of 30 ; the student must be a full-time music major at a college , university or music school or a graduating high school senior accepted for admission as a fulltime music major ; and contestants must be current legal residents of Pennsylvania for one year , or if out-of-state , attending a school in Pennsylvania and can provide proof of a PA address — for example , a campus or apartment address ( school mailings ) and utility bills .

THE WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY IS TURNING 50 !
The Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society ( WPGS ) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this 2023-2024 membership year . In honor of the occasion , a committee of dedicated members is planning a special celebration .
“ Fifty years is such a milestone . We are delighted to mark it by hosting locals and visitors in Pittsburgh ( and virtually ) for this family history conference ,” said the society ’ s president , Pamela Israel . “ Post-pandemic , we are hearing about many people who want to research and learn from leading genealogists in person , so we are thrilled our 50th affords this opportunity while also extending our reach to people unable to travel .”
Founded in 1974 , WPGS focuses on the western 26 counties of Pennsylvania . It is inviting the entire Western Pennsylvania community to join in the commemoration of the momentous anniversary . Following is a brief overview of the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society ’ s 50th Anniversary Celebration .

FREE TAX RETURN ASSISTANCE
Free tax preparation assistance by VITA will be offered at The Bible Chapel , 300 Gallery Drive in McMurray . It will be available Monday through Thursday , Feb . 5 through April 4 ( except April 1 ), from 8 a . m . to 1 p . m .
There are no appointments ; help is on a first-come , first-served basis . Participants must bring : last year ’ s tax return ; ID for self and spouse ; Social Security numbers and birth dates for self , spouse and dependents ; all W-2 and 1099 tax documents ( including Social Security 1099 ); 1095 health care statements ; and property tax receipts . Both spouses must sign joint returns .
