STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Have you attended Canon-Mac for all 12 years? Maura: Yes, all of them! Jack: Yes, all 12 What activities have you participated in? Maura: I do a lot of choir, the Maura and Jack at the Canonettes, the band, thespians...oh Homecoming 2019 Football and I’m in the future medical Game professionals club. Jack: Yea I’m in thespians, drama club, art club, history club, I think that’s about it for clubs. What do you love most about the district? Maura: Probably that there’s so much to do…there’s a lot of clubs. I feel like it’s hard to not join a club because you’re gonna find what you’re interested in. Jack: There’s a lot to do! It keeps you busy…always. What was your biggest challenge during your years here? What did you learn from it? Maura: Probably, especially with choir and drama there’s so much competition because there are so many talented kids so I’ve learned how to deal with disappointment if I didn’t get a part or something like that, so I’ve learned how to deal with disappointment. Jack: I’ve learned how to balance a lot of things…if you’re in a lot of clubs and stuff it can be hard to decide if you want to go to this meeting or that meeting and kind of get your time in with everything. She’s the sweetest lady and she’s such a good teacher. I haven’t had Mr. Heirendt, it made me sad because everyone loves him. Jack: AP Lit – Mr. Heirendt, he’s been my man all year, he’s the greatest. It’s really difficult but I think it’s gonna pay off and we’ll be ready by the end of the year. What are your future plans after graduation? Maura: I think I’m gonna end up going to Duquesne and I’m gonna study nursing and then I’d like to get my masters in nursing later but we’ll figure that out…but definitely nursing. Jack: My idea is to either go to Kent or Pitt, Pitt Main…either/or, whichever will give me the most money…and then computer science. That’s the plan so far. What is your dream job? Maura: I was debating between nursing and teaching so once I’m older and done with all of my nursing I think I’d like to teach nursing. I think that’d be so cool to teach at a university. Jack: I don’t know, I think something in computer science would be great…maybe something higher up where I’m managing someone like a team or something but media production would also be really awesome. What will you miss the most about Canon-McMillan School District? Maura: Probably all of the friends I’ve made…having a solid friend group, it makes coming to school so much easier. Jack:…Yea I was gonna say all of the kids…Definitely…a whole lot easier.
