Please help build a new women ’ s shelter !
City Mission is very near the realization of completing part of its master plan : a new shelter for single women . The shelter broke ground on May 23 and is designed to be a 50-bed facility . Because the current shelter has only 14 beds and the need is great , City Mission has a waiting list for an open bed every month . Dr . Sally Mounts is the Chief Development Officer and spearheaded the fundraising to support this new facility . The cost of the new women ’ s shelter is $ 7.5 million , and $ 6.6 million has been raised through May 31 .
This is where you come in . The homeless crisis in our community is growing , and women are especially vulnerable . Dean Gartland , President Emeritus of City Mission , says , “ There is a whole world out there that people aren ’ t aware of . We need the public ’ s help to raise the last million for a larger women ’ s shelter and are hopeful that the residents of Peters Township will assist in our journey .” He is personally inviting the community to visit City Mission , tour the campus , and see the results that donations make .
Even as Dean is retiring , he is still playing an integral part in the completion of the shelter . It is only possible through the donation of time and financial support of communities like Peters Township . Longtime Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughn is the new president and CEO of City Mission and is looking forward to continuing this journey and building upon the mission ’ s foundation into the future .
With an ever-growing need in the community , there is a focus right now on serving women . City Mission strives to meet individuals where
they can address the barriers they face to achieve a thriving life — barriers such as poor physical health , mental health , drug and alcohol addiction , or domestic violence . Your support has the power to meet needs and transform lives .
So many events are held right here in the community but City Mission needs your charitable donations as well . Events have been held at Peterswood Park , St . Benedict the Abbot Church , and Valley Brook Country Club , just to name a few . City Mission is ingrained in this community .
