STUDENTS OF MCMURRAY MUSIC STUDIO PERFORM BENEFIT RECITAL
Students of the McMurray Music Studio held a piano performance benefit recital on Saturday , March 23 , at Center Presbyterian Church . They raised $ 800 for the ALS Association of Western Pennsylvania .
ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis . It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord . Well-known people who have had ALS include baseball player Lou Gehrig , physicist Steven Hawking , actor David Niven , and former U . S . vice president Henry Wallace .
The recital included works by a diverse selection of composers , including Chopin , Beethoven , Liszt , Yiruma , and Chuck Berry , to name a few . Past student-run charity recitals have benefited the Peters Township Food Pantry , the International Red Cross to give aid to Ukraine , and the American Cancer Society .
AMI TO HOST 15TH ANNUAL POETRY AND FINE ART SHOW
AMI is inviting artists to participate in the 15th Annual Poetry and Fine Art Show by submitting 2D and 3D art , photography , and poetry . The deadline for submissions is Friday , Aug . 30 .
Eligible artists must be Washington County residents age 14 or older with current or past mental health challenges and / or substance use disorders .
Submissions will be accepted at AMI , Inc ., 907 Jefferson Avenue in Washington , from 8:30 a . m . to 4:30 p . m . Monday through Friday . Artists can submit up to three quality pieces per category , with no submission fee . They can sell their pieces at the show , with AMI providing potential buyer contacts if the artist is absent . All submissions will be checked for authenticity and copyright issues .

MEET THE KEYSTONE CHORUS
“ We ’ re the men of the Keystone Chorus !” Hailing from Bethel Park , this chorus is an all-male a cappella group , and has been singing songs in the barbershop style since 1957 . Members range in age from 10 to 91 and come from all walks of life ... retired doctors and contractors , working tech and medical professionals , amateur singers and music professionals , just to name a few !
The repertoire continues to grow and now includes not only barbershop classics like “ Goodbye , My Coney Island Baby ,” but also some a cappella renditions of more widely known tunes such as “ Route 66 .”
Each August , the chorus performs an annual show as part of the Dean Streator Summer Concert Series . Members also enjoy performing at local retirement centers , community events and fairs , personal celebrations , an annual holiday show , and more — the opportunities are endless !
If you love to sing , love harmony , or just love music , you are encouraged to join the group at a weekly rehearsal . They are confident you will learn , grow , laugh , smile and have great fellowship with other music lovers .
