Adult Summer Programs Blossom at Frank Sarris Public Library
Summer is in full swing and so are the programs at the Frank Sarris Public Library. It’ s not too late to join us. This year, we have started an adult summer reading challenge and have many program offerings throughout the summer. The Adult Reading Challenge kicked off on Monday, June 18, and will be ongoing until Saturday, August 4. One of the signature activities is a weekly prize drawing held in conjunction with summer reading. The more books you read, the more chances you have to win prizes. In addition, the Fiction Club will continue to meet. Their next discussion will be held on Wednesday, July 11, at noon. The Nonfiction Club will hold a July discussion. Check our website for the date and time of this group’ s next meeting. Also, the Knitting and Crocheting Club members gather here every Wednesday at 6:00 p. m. We always welcome new members to join us. On Thursday, July 26, at 6:00 p. m., The Frick Pittsburgh will bring its virtual tour of Clayton to the library. Clayton was the home of industrialist Henry Clay Frick and his family. You will learn about the home’ s design and how they used the residence. Finally, on Saturday, August 4, the library will be closed. Join us from 3:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the North Strabane Park to celebrate the grand finale of Summer Challenge.
CHILDREN’ S SUMMER PROGRAMS
This summer, the Frank Sarris Public Library changed the name of the hugely popular Summer Reading Camp to Summer Quest. Our focus remains unchanged. We encourage children to read and cultivate the habit of life-long learning. At our Summer Quest program, we inspire the children to work through ordinary household items to create art, engage in science, and learn through playing games. If you missed the first weeks of Summer Quest, please check at the children’ s circulation desk to see if we have more openings.
In addition to Summer Quest, please check out our Monday lineup. You have the entire month in July to join the fun every Monday. We are sure that your family will enjoy our newly created summer edition of MadCap Mondays, your budding artists ages 2 to 5 will love to try their hands at our everpopular Little Picassos, and summer Storytimes with Ms. Barb are just fun and exciting.
For children who are reading independently, Ms. Amy has designed an engaging Reading Challenge for your family. You can read on throughout summer to complete all your reading challenges to win prizes and fame!
Is your family going away for a summer vacation? If so, why not check out some bestsellers to take along with you? We also have Playaways, Books on CDs, DVDs, Launchpads, electronic books and magazines that your whole family will enjoy during your road trips.
I wish you all an adventurous and fun-filled summer. Hope to see you and your family at the library.
