Cecil Elementary Students
Raise $4.5K for Classmates with
Cancer, Get to Prank Principal
T
he Cecil Elementary School
community rallied behind three
district classmates battling cancer –
raising more than $4,500 and earning some
students the right to prank their principal
this month.
Students brought in change during Spirit
Week, which was complete with themed
days (one day students were permitted to
wear their PJs, on another day they were
allowed to wear crazy hats or hairstyles).
The families of Gregory, a student
from South Central, Avery, a student at
Wylandville; and Savannah, a student at
Borland Manor, were presented with checks
for about $1,500 each.
As an incentive, the two classes that
raised the most money were given the
opportunity to prank their principal,
Mrs. Tula Dziak.
Students in Mrs. Sharpnack’s and Mrs.
Jacobs’ first-grade classes earned that
honor, and pummeled their principal with
water balloons filled with colored water.
But the pranking (and mess!) didn’t
end there: The Cecil Elementary teachers
also got in on the action, hitting the
unsuspecting principal with whipped cream
pies.
Even Mrs. Dziak’s husband was in on the
prank, and presented her with a bouquet
of flowers the school’s parent-teacher
organization purchased for her.
The PTO posted photos of the fun on
Facebook, writing, “Mrs. Dziak over the years
has been an amazing sport and this year
didn’t disappoint!”
As for her?
“It was wild and crazy but worth the smile
on Gregory’s face!” Mrs. Dziak said, adding
that while Avery and Savannah were unable
to attend, they received over-sized checks.
