SENIOR SOFTBALL LEAGUE SEEKS NEW PLAYERS
Registration is open for the South Hills Senior Softball League, which organizes games for players 55 and older.
Interested people can get information on how to register by emailing shssleague @ yahoo. com. Registration forms should be turned in by March 30.
The league, formed over three decades ago, attracts more than 150 players each year. Games are typically played at fields in South Park, Pleasant Hills, Baldwin, Brentwood, Bethel Park and Pittsburgh. One division of the league plays on weekday evenings; another on weekday mornings. Teams in both divisions normally play twice a week. Tryouts and a draft are held in April, with dates to be announced to registered players.
League commissioner Ron Sullivan says,“ Our players get a chance not only to rediscover a game they love, but also to join a strong community of friends.”
TREEHAVEN GARDEN CLUB TO HOLD MOTHER’ S DAY WEEKEND PLANT SALE Treehaven Garden Club will hold its annual Mother ' s Day Weekend Plant Sale on Saturday, May 9, from 8 a. m. to noon at the South Park Shops( 5209 Library Road, on the sidewalk in front of the vacant Rite Aid).
The sale is a tremendously popular annual event, offering beautiful hanging baskets from Lenik Nursery, healthy homegrown perennials dug from members’ gardens, herbs, bulbs, and small floral gifts that would make great children’ s gifts for mothers and grandmothers.
CELEBRATE PITTSBURGH TARTAN DAY 2026!
Pittsburgh’ s Tartan Day celebration will be held Saturday, April 11, from 10 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2999 Bethel Church Road in Bethel Park.
Hosted by St. Andrew’ s Society of Pittsburgh, the free, family-friendly event honors Scotland’ s signing of its Declaration of Independence, and this year will also mark the 250th anniversary of the United States as well as Bethel Presbyterian Church.
The day will feature vendors, food, clan representation, workshops, entertainment and raffles, with free admission and parking. Proceeds from the event will benefit the St. Andrew’ s Society Scholarship Fund.
PITTSBURGH OPERA HIRES WILLIAM POWERS AS ITS NEW GENERAL DIRECTOR
Pittsburgh Opera announced that William Powers will become its new general director on July 1, 2026, succeeding Christopher Hahn, who is retiring after leading the company since 2008.
Powers brings more than 30 years of experience in arts administration, and previously worked at Pittsburgh Opera for 14 years in several senior leadership roles. Most recently, he has served as executive director of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra since 2021.
Widely praised by board leadership and Hahn himself, Powers is recognized for his artistic vision, leadership and fiscal expertise, and looks forward to building on Pittsburgh Opera’ s legacy while ensuring its long-term stability.
CARNEGIE MUSEUMS OFFER SUMMER CAMPS
Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History have announced the return of their summer camps, offering a variety of weeklong programs for children and teens starting in June.
Camps run June 8 through Aug. 21, Monday through Friday, with full-day options for ages 6 – 13, half-day camps for ages 4 – 5, and specialized teen programs for grades 9 – 12 through the Youth Art Studio.
The full list of camps is available online, and registration is open. Scholarship applications are available as well, providing reduced-cost options for qualifying families.

JOIN THE WOMEN’ S GOLF LEAGUE OF MT. LEBANON
The Women’ s Golf League of Mt. Lebanon is inviting women of all ages and skill levels to join for its 2026 season, which begins in April and continues through September.
Applicants should have some knowledge of the game and its rules prior to joining.
The league plays nine holes on Tuesday mornings, teeing off between 7:15 and 9:30 a. m., and a designated member can assist in creating foursomes. The annual league membership fee is $ 27.
