WOMEN OF SOUTHWESTERN PA , INC . HOLDS GRANT RECIPIENT EVENT
WOMEN ( Women Organized to Mentor , Empower and Network ) of Southwestern PA , Inc . recently held a grant recipient virtual event for its 2021 grant recipients .
Over the past 22 years , WOMEN of SWPA has donated in excess of $ 743,000 to women and children in need in the following five counties of western Pennsylvania : Allegheny , Beaver , Fayette , Greene and Washington . It is a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) nonprofit , 100 % volunteer charitable organization based in the South Hills and dedicated to supporting the needs of women and children . As an independent organization with no national affiliation , every dollar given stays in the region .
During the pandemic , every nonprofit was impacted and WOMEN of SWPA addressed critical needs early in 2021 , along with its annual grants in May and June and extra grants late in 2021 . At the virtual grant recipients event , all nonprofits were asked to speak about the way the funds were spent . Food security and mental health services were the most important needs .
The organization has been unable to continue its large annual fundraiser , Symphony of Food at Bella Sera , the past two years due to the pandemic , but substituted a successful Lottery Calendar sale in the fall and a golf outing in the spring at Valley Brook Country Club . The 2022 golf outing is Monday , May 9 . WOMEN of SWPA salutes its sponsors , both private and corporate .
WOMEN of Southwestern PA , Inc . was also a proud recipient of the 60th NAACP Human Rights Award for Philanthropy , as well as humbled and honored to receive the 2018 Outstanding Philanthropic Organization Award presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals , Western PA chapter .

KEYNOTES OF SOUTH HILLS MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION
Keynotes of South Hills is accepting applications for its music scholarship competition , which will be held May 14 at the Fine Arts Theater of Mt . Lebanon High School . Cash awards totaling up to $ 12,000 will be available .
Instrumentalists must be under 26 years of age by June 1 , 2022 , and vocalists must be under the age of 30 . The student must be a full-time music major at a college , university or music school or a graduating high school senior accepted for admission as a full-time music major .

PASSAVANT MEMORIAL HOMES FOUNDATION SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR 2022 COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP
$ 10,000 Award Given in Memory of Jamie Ellenberger
Passavant Memorial Homes Foundation ( PMHF ) encourages western Pennsylvania students to apply for the organization ’ s annual Community Service Scholarship . The scholarship awards $ 10,000 in funding for postsecondary education tuition costs to a high school senior who exemplifies the commitment of PMHF and the late Jamie Ellenberger to serving and improving the community .
PMHF has provided detailed information about the scholarship to 246 high schools in the western Pennsylvania region , where Passavant Memorial Homes Family of Services ( PMHFOS ) provides a complete range of support services to more than 10,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities , autism , and behavioral health needs .
The scholarship was created to honor Jamie Ellenberger , an individual PMHFOS was privileged to serve and who was an active member of the community . The principle of community is central to the PMHFOS mission , including efforts to engage in community initiatives and be involved in community improvements .
PMHFOS is seeking to award the scholarship to a student in the region who brings that same understanding of the value of community service . It also intends for this scholarship to continue raising awareness about intellectual disabilities and the opportunities available to pursue careers in providing supports and services to individuals with intellectual disabilities , autism , and behavioral health needs .
In addition to a focus on service to the community , criteria for the PMHF scholarship include academic honors and awards and extracurricular activities , along with the completion of an application process and essays . Applicants must also submit three letters of recommendation highlighting the student ’ s character , academic achievements , and demonstration of leadership in the community .
Eligible high schools include those in the following counties : Allegheny , Armstrong , Beaver , Bedford , Butler , Cambria , Clarion , Crawford , Erie , Fayette , Greene , Indiana , Jefferson , Lawrence , Mercer , Somerset , Venango , Washington , and Westmoreland .
