SPONSORED CONTENT BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT SPONSORED CONTENT Liberty Lumber The Foundation for Any Project or the past 70 years, Liberty Lumber has been a staple of Canonsburg. As a family-owned and operated business, it is not only a local success story but a strong supporter of the community, believing that giving back is a privilege. “There are some people who don’t even know we’re here after 70 years,” said Cathy Romano, the daughter of founder Nick Cianelli, an Italian cabinetmaker who immigrated to the U.S. in the first half of the 20th century. “Or, they think we’re strictly wholesalers. But we’re open to the public and carry pretty much everything you’d find in a ‘big-box’ store. The big difference is our customer service and a staff that knows our products and wood inside and out.” While the quality and variety of the wood stock is Liberty’s bread and butter, you can also find high-end home improvement lines like Andersen windows, Azek and Timbertech decking, plumbing supplies, electrical supplies, ThermaTru doors, Fairway railings, Mastic vinyl siding and more. It has common items as well as specialty items like barn door kits that can transform your home in a weekend. “Some people think the only thing we have is wood,” Romano explained. “The reality is, we’re able to get just about anything anybody’s looking for. We’re a full-service lumber yard, of course, and we specialize in wood products that you can’t find anywhere else, like poplar, cedar and oak. We’ll cut your order to size, do material take-offs and work off of your blueprints. But we can also provide all the hardware to finish those products too.” She added that perhaps the most important aspect of Liberty Lumber’s success for nearly three quarters of a century is its F employees: “We’ve been blessed with an outstanding staff. Our customer service is second to none, and our employees know what they’re talking about. If you have questions about any of the items we have in stock, or how a particular wood is going to work for your project, they can tell you the answer.” And while the developments that have sprung up in the Canon-McMillan School District in the last decade have definitely been a boon to the business, especially the development in Southpointe, Liberty Lumber’s retail business has always been a staple of its success. In addition to supporting the community through the products and services offered, Liberty is also extremely involved with supporting local charities and causes. The two largest are the Washington County City Mission and Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity, both of which have a long history of support from the company.
