Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh/Southpointe to highlight 90 economic development projects that account for over $727.6 million in capital investment in Washington County during the past year. These projects were also complemented by over $6.7 million in additional investments the county has made in 2017 through the Washington County Local Share Account (LSA) -a fund capitalized by gaming revenues. These LSA investments are being leveraged by an additional $29 million in public and private resources. “Washington County continues to lead the Greater Pittsburgh Region in creating new economic growth, new job opportunities and county-wide expansion,” stated Larry Maggi, Chairman of the Washington County Board of Commissioners. “In 2017, our public and private partners announced $727,609,978 in new business investment and an additional 1,438 created/retained jobs in Washington County. This tremendous growth in business investment and job creation was driven by numerous sectors of our economy- energy, commercial/retail development, healthcare and infrastructure. We are proud of that success especially in creating new job opportunities for our residents”. In addition to the impressive economic development successes in the past year, Washington County invested in infrastructure, business parks and community development projects through the Washington County Local Share Account Program (LSA). The LSA program is Washington County’s share of gross revenues from The Meadows Casino that has been directed by the commissioners to economic development projects in the county. The program has been investing in Washington County projects since 2008. CANONSBURG SPHERION OFFICE MAKES SEASONAL CONTRIBUTION TO WASHINGTON- GREENE COUNTY BLIND ASSOCIATION The Canonsburg office of Spherion Staffing Services, a local recruiting, staffing and workforce solutions provider, made a $1,000 donation to Washington-Greene County Blind Association. This special contribution is part of the annual Spherion Community Give Back program, a nationwide initiative which recognizes and advances the efforts of charitable organizations who make Canonsburg a better place to live and work. Spherion Canonsburg franchise owner Don Ruggery Sr. selected Washington- Greene County Blind Association as this year’s donation recipient because they wanted to honor the Spherion Canonsburg office administrator who is partially blind. Washington-Greene County Blind Association, incorporated in 1949, aids and assists the blind to promote training, employment, education and rehabilitation to help the blind gain independence. “The tireless work Washington-Greene County Blind Association completes every day makes an immeasurable difference in the success and strength of Canonsburg and our neighbors in need,” Ruggery said. “We feel that at Spherion Canonsburg we can work with candidates that are visually impaired and help them become more productive in our community by offering them specialized employment.” As a dedicated steward of the Canonsburg community, Spherion and its team continually seek opportunities to volunteer time and resources to their local partners. Beyond their Washington-Green County work with the Washington-Greene County BLIND ASSOCIATION Blind Association, members of the Canonsburg Spherion leadership team support other organizations including the Wounded Warrior Project and the Special Olympics. n CANON-MAC ❘ SPRING 2018 11
