Current Sanitary Sewer
Projects
The Board of Supervisors, in conjunction
with NSTMA, have authorized the final
phase of the Linden Creek Watershed
Sewer System to alleviate the pollution
problems in Little Chartiers Creek and to
preserve the natural integrity of this high
quality trout stream.
Currently, all unsewered areas adjacent
to Linden Creek utilize some type of on-lot
sewage system (septic tank, leach field
/ drain field, or
sand mound). A
high percentage
of these on-lot
systems are
malfunctioning
and contributing
to the pollution
of the Linden Creek watershed. The
watershed has an on-lot failure rate of 7090 percent. The proposed gravity sewers
would eliminate the majority of these onlot septic systems and also be capable of
supporting future growth in all areas of the
watershed.
NSTMA, in compliance with the
Township’s Act 537 Plan and Federal
Clean Streams regulations, authorizes
the construction of these projects. The
sewer extension gravity sewers will
discharge into existing gravity sewers
in the Township, which convey sewage
into NSTMA’s Route 19 Pump Station for
treatment at the Canonsburg Houston
Joint Authority (CHJA) Wastewater
Treatment Plant.
NSTMA, with the assistance of the
Township, has taken advantage of current
low interest rates through the issuance of
$8,800,000 in revenue bonds to fund the
current and future sanitary sewer projects
listed below.
H Linden Creek Sewer Extension
Project: The Linden Creek Sewer Extension
Project is located along Route 519
between Christy Road and Route 136.
Sewage will be conveyed to an existing
manhole within the Thomas Eighty Four
Road sewer system, which will then flow
to three pump stations and ultimately be
treated at the CHJA Wastewater Treatment
Plant. The service area will initially include
45 homes/businesses at an estimated cost
of $1,700,000. The design and permitting
for this project is complete, with
construction to start Spring 2016.
H Thomas Eighty Four Road Sewer
Extension Project: The Thomas Eighty
Road Sewer Extension Project is located
along Thomas Road between Brownlee
Road and approximately a mile south of
Gilkeson Road. Sewage will be conveyed
approximately 2.5 miles to the Linden
Creek Sewer, which will then flow to three
pump stations and ultimately be treated at
the CHJA Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The service area will initially include 35
homes/businesses at an estimated cost of
$1,200,000. The design and permitting for
this project is complete, with construction
to begin Spring 2016.
These two projects will eliminate
existing malfunctioning on-lot septic
systems and accommodate future growth
in the Township.

Upgrade Project is located along
Racetrack Road. This siphon discharges
into the CHJA Interceptor for treatment
at the CHJA Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Racetrack Road Siphon Upgrade
Project will replace the existing
undersized siphon and provide for
additional capacity in the service
area. The project will serve the entire
Racetrack Road Watershed area at
an estimated cost of $575,000. The
design and permitting for this project is
currently underway, with construction to
start in the Fall of 2017.
