Officer Matt Salerno
was hired in January
of 2016. He was raised
in Upper St. Clair and
graduated from Upper
St. Clair High School
in 2002. After high
school, Matt attended
Robert Morris University
for two years before
transferring to the
University of Pittsburgh.
He graduated from the
University of Pittsburgh
in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. After
college, he briefly worked in finance/payroll before choosing
a career in law enforcement, which is something that runs in
the family. Matt’s grandfather worked over three decades as a
police officer for the City of Pittsburgh.
In 2008, he was hired as a police officer with the City
of Pittsburgh. After graduation from the Police Academy,
he was stationed in Zone 4 (Squirrel Hill). Matt’s hobbies
include weight lifting, spending time with family and friends,
traveling, attending Steeler games, fantasy football, concerts,
sports cars, and watching movies. Matt is scheduled to begin
the Field Training Officer Program in late February 2016.

or more frontage having developed
lots on each side to a depth of 150’
or depth of ownership, whichever is
greater.
Land not subject to this regulation:
Land used for agricultural purposes;
portions of lots used for gardening;
naturally wooded areas, wetlands,
meadows and fields; undeveloped
open space; and conservation
easements.

Officer Daniel O’Leary
was hired in January
of this year and hails
from Beaver County,
Pennsylvania. He
graduated from Freedom
Area High School, where
he played baseball
and football. Shortly
after graduation, he
attended both Penn
State Beaver Campus
and Community College
of Beaver County, where
he earned his Associate’s Degree in Police Technologies.
After completing the Municipal Officer’s Police Training
Academy, Dan began working as a police officer in January
of 2014. In addition to his normal duties, he acted as a Crime
Watch Officer while serving at the New Sewickley Township
Police Department. He worked with community youth and
educated children on topics such as: Bicycle Safety, Roadway
Safety, and Alcohol Abuse Education. He holds several
police training certificates and continues to excel in the Field
Training Officer Program.

The North Strabane Township Police Department recently added two additional police officers to
its force. Officer Daniel O’Leary and Officer Matthew Salerno were hired to increase staffing needs.
