CANON-MAC ALUM
SELECTED FOR
INDUCTION INTO THE
MARIETTA COLLEGE
ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
Chris Sidick ’05 — Baseball and Football
Chris Sidick went to Marietta College
to play football for coach Gene Epley and
decided to try out for baseball on a dare.
“Nobody recruited me out of high school
until I got a letter from Coach Epley in
early August and a week later I reported for
preseason practice,” Sidick said. “After school
started I was talking with some of the baseball
players and told them I could hit any of their
pitchers, and they
challenged me to
prove it. Coach
Schaly agreed to
give me a one-day
tryout and I went 3
for 4 with a hit off of
(Matt) DeSalvo and
Coach told me he’d
see me in January.”
Sidick was a four-year letter winner in both
football and baseball. On the gridiron, he
earned All-OAC honors in 2003 and 2004
and was an All-Region selection in 2004.
Sidick graduated as the NCAA Division III
all-time leader in kickoff returns with 106
and kick return yards with 2,235.
As an outfielder for the Etta Express,
Sidick was twice named the OAC Jack Rafeld
Most Valuable Player, earning the award in
2004 and 2005. He was a three-time first
team All-OAC pick and took home all-region
accolades three times. Sidick earned second
team All-American honors in 2004 and third
team honors in 2005.
After college, Sidick played professionally
for the Washington Wild Things of the
Frontier League. He holds numerous league
records including career marks for games
played, at bats, runs scored and hits. Named
a Top-10 Independent Professional Baseball
Prospect in 2006 by Baseball America, he
was later inducted into the Frontier League
Hall of Fame in 2015.
Currently, Sidick lives in Canonsburg
with his wife Melissa, who is expecting the
couple’s first child in April. He is the owner
of C-Side Sports Academy, a baseball and
softball training school.
“I owe a lot to Marietta College and
Coaches Epley, Brewer and Schaly,” Sidick
said. “I have a banner in my building of
Coach Schaly, and underneath it says ‘You’re
going to do great things in baseball.’ Those
were the last words he said to me before he
passed away.”
