REALTORS PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT RAISES OVER $ 3,000 TO SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SERVICES
On July 19, the courts at Washington Park were filled with more than just spirited competition— they were filled with purpose.
The first of many“ Dinks for Dignity” pickleball tournaments, hosted by the Washington-Greene Association of Realtors ®( WGAR) and Victorian Finance LLC, brought the community together for a day of athleticism, camaraderie, and meaningful support for survivors of domestic violence.
With players of all skill levels, the tournament raised critical awareness and funds for Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania( DVSSP). This event showcased the power of sport not only to build community but also to change lives.
A total of 75 participants attended the event, and more than $ 3,000 was raised to support DVSSP’ s mission to end domestic violence by empowering survivors, raising awareness and creating safer communities.
“ This event was a perfect blend of community, fun and purpose,” said Maryann Barlow, association executive of WGAR.“ The response from our members and supporters was incredible. It’ s clear our REALTOR ® family and the local pickleball community understand the value of giving back— and they showed up in a big way.”
“ We are so grateful to the Washington- Greene Association of Realtors and Victorian Finance for hosting this event and showing survivors that their community stands with them,” said Megan Hegedus, CEO of DVSSP.“ It’ s inspiring to see people come together to support such an important cause.”

WASHINGTON COUNTY ACT 13 FUNDING FOR CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE AND SERVICES
Washington County has received approximately $ 4.9 million in Act 13 impact funding. Act 13, signed into law by former Governor Tom Corbett on Feb. 14, 2012, provides for the imposition of unconventional gas well fees and distributes those funds to local and state governments to support critical developmental efforts and services.
“ These funds help us invest in essential services that county residents depend on, like infrastructure and environmental protection,” said county commissioner Electra Janis.
The disbursements made through Act 13 help ensure that communities in the county impacted by drilling receive funding for projects such as road and bridge repair, housing, and other critical infrastructure needs. Washington County is home to approximately 11 % of all unconventional gas wells in the state of Pennsylvania, which underscores the importance of these funds.
Additionally, Act 13 impact funding supports water and sewer system upgrades, emergency preparedness and environmental programs, and it helps maintain Washington County’ s low tax rate. These investments play a crucial role in improving quality of life and offsetting the impacts of energy development across the region.
Washington County remains committed to using Act 13 funds responsibly, transparently, and effectively to meet the needs of its communities. As energy development continues to shape the region, these resources ensure that the county can invest in vital services, increase developmental efforts and contribute to the common good.
