Junior Achievement of Western PA ( JA ) and Citizens Bank Bring Experiential Financial Learning to Area Youth through the Stock Market Challenge
On Dec . 12 , the Junior Achievement ( JA ) Stock Market Challenge will take place at Stage AE on Pittsburgh ’ s North Side , bringing together local high school students for a dynamic and educational experience in the world of finance and investing for the future . This competition , sponsored by Citizens Bank , is designed to introduce students to the foundational concepts of building savings , market dynamics , and long-term investment strategies through a hands-on , fast-paced simulation .
This competition is the culmination of the JA Take Stock in Your Future curriculum , which includes five suggested 45-minute classroom sessions . The sessions prepare students by covering key topics such as the basics of stocks , current market trends , long-term investment strategies , and the risks and rewards associated with their decision-making . When students arrive to the competition , they will be equipped with the knowledge needed to make informed and strategic decisions during the course of the day .
Participating students will create teams of three to four players who compete to achieve the highest rate of return on their investments . Prizes will be awarded to the top teams , with the first-place team receiving $ 500 , the second-place team earning $ 300 , and the third-place team walking away with $ 25 gift cards for each player . The competition emphasizes quick thinking and the ability to respond to real-time market conditions , mimicking the fast-paced nature of actual stock trading .
This is not just a friendly competition between school districts , as it provides a unique learning opportunity for students to understand the complexities of the stock market and the importance of financial literacy . Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how to manage investments , analyze market trends , and make decisions that could impact their financial futures .
