Canon-Mac Represented at 72nd
Keystone Girls State Event
C
anon-McMillan High School rising senior Allison Paxton represented the district and
community at the 72nd annual Keystone Girls State held at Shippensburg University
this past June.
She was the only student from our district to attend
and was sponsored to participate by the American Legion
Auxiliary, Unit 902, in Houston, PA.
"This was a prestigious opportunity for her," her mother,
Tonya Paxton said.
Keystone Girls State is an educational program that
teaches government instruction to high school girls at the
completion of their junior year.
As part of the event, she participated in the operation
of local, county and state government in addition to
learning about legislative sessions, court proceedings and
the election process.
She also had the opportunity to meet with state Rep.
Brandon Neuman when she visited the Pennsylvania State
Capitol.
Congratulations, Allison!
Saying Goodbye to Cecil, First
Street and Muse Elementary
Schools
CECIL
T
he bard was right: Parting is such sweet sorrow. This past school
year, the Canon-McMillan School District community said goodbye
to three of its elementary school buildings.
The community joined district officials, students, and their families
bid First Street, Cecil and Muse elementary schools a fond farewell
last spring as everyone prepared to make new memories at a newly
constructed school.
That school, the new Muse Elementary, opened its doors this
academic year.
Before we close the book on the well-worn and well-loved schools,
we wanted to share a few photos of the community celebrations and
last day of school at First Street (which opened in 1924), Cecil and
Muse (both of which opened in 1936).
