NEW MUSE ELEMENTARY
T
he Canon-McMillan School District community celebrated
the long-awaited opening of its new Muse Elementary
School—a two-story, state-of-the-art green building with two
academic wings, and spacious gym, assembly and cafeteria
spaces.
Administrators and school directors from Canon-Mac
were on hand to welcome students to their new academic
home, and the Muse Volunteer Fire Department made an
appearance—ensuring that the inaugural day of classes was a
memorable one.
The new building will be attended by students from the
previous First Street, Cecil, and Muse elementary schools,
which were shuttered after the end of the 2016-17 school year.
A formal community celebration was planned for September.
Canon-McMillan Superintendent Michael Daniels expressed
gratitude to everyone who had a part in the opening of the
new school.
42 Canon-Mac
Everyone from school directors and administrators to
teachers and support staff helped make the consolidation
from three schools to one as smooth as possible. He also
thanked municipal leaders in Canonsburg and Cecil—and
most of all, students and their parents for their patience and
excitement throughout the building process.
"Today is a very special day in the history of the Canon-
McMillan School District," Daniels said. "Like all worthwhile
projects, it couldn't have been done without a team effort.
Fortunately, as you can see, that's something we excel at here
in the Canon-Mac community."
Board president Manuel Pihakis said that, to him, it's simple.
"We have so many fantastic things going on in this school
community. If you're not excited, you may as well go home
and go to sleep," he said with a laugh.
