A message from the Public Works Supervisor:
(Briefly Winter?)
If you haven’t been in Brentwood Park lately, I invite you to
see the multi-complex renovations going on. To mention one
is the newly reconstructed track with overhead lighting. The
track lights will be on from dusk until the closing of the park at
11 p.m. When walking the track we request you do not use the
first two inside lanes as this was highly recommended by the
installer, to reduce “wear and tear” on these particular lanes.
The Public Works Department will soon be operating at the
newly constructed facility located at 4583 East Willock Road.
The crew and I would like to thank the Borough Council for
the new building which will give us more space to house the
department’s large equipment and additional equipment
purchased in the future. A simple task like greasing the trucks
will be easier due to the fact the bed of the vehicle can be raised
inside of the building instead of moving them outside. Due to
the height of the doors and ceiling of the new building, the
street sweeper can now be driven into the garage and will have
additional space and be more efficient for routine maintenance
details. We won’t have to worry about moving trucks and
equipment around and about to use a piece of equipment that
is “buried” in the back of the garage. Thanks again!

As a reminder:
n The following will NOT be pick up by ALLIED WASTE
SERVICES (Republic Services): DESKTOP, LAPTOP COMPUTERS,
THEIR COMPONENTS, and TELEVISIONS Please visit www.dep.
state.pa.us for locations and companies who will accept these
items. Building materials/demolition materials such as:
BRICK, DRYWALL, PLYWOOD and 2X4’s. etc.
n As always, we request you do not shovel snow into the
streets. I am proud of our Public Works crew who is on call 24/7
to remove the snow from the streets to make them passible and
safe for the residents. Imagine trying to drive around the streets
with a 25 foot truck with an attached plow and vehicles are
parked in fire lanes or parked within 20 feet of an intersection
(State Code: No vehicles may park 20’ from an intersection or
30’ from a Stop Sign). Again, once we plow and salt the streets
first, then we take care of our walkways and steps and lastly
we plow the snow away from the roadway for a more-clear
pathway. (In case of future snow.) The fewer vehicles on the
street will result with a cleaner snow removal. We request you
please use your driveways and garages.

address your concerns.
2013 Summary of Sewer Projects

Assistant Public Works Director
With the end year of the approaching, I chose to base my article
on a roundup of the many projects in progress associated with
the Department of Public Works. The Capital Improvement Plan
is composed of multiple sanitary sewer rehabilitation projects
within the Borough. On October 22, 12013, Council adopted the
SHACOG Joint O&M Preventative Maintenance Project - Year 3
Plan that allocates $29,775.00 for sewer projects for the 2014 fiscal
year. Many of these projects in the CIP are aimed at updating and
improving the efficiency of the sewer system, sanitary and storm
sewers, including reduction of flooding, and repairs in specific
areas of the Brentwood Borough. For example: Sewer work, aimed
at extending the life of neighborhood sewers and addressing
local basement flooding, was an estimated cost of approximately
$300,000 in 2013. The Borough is also planning a Sanitary and
Storm Sewer Rehabilitation Budget for the year 2014. All projects
in the CIP will go through the city procurement process and are
individually approved by the Borough Council. With the Council
making rate adjustments to cover additional increases and fund
infrastructure, the CIP will not require a rate increase. Wishing you
a great Happy Holiday Season and Happy New Year!
