FAMILY FUN FEST SHINES DURING LOVE YOUR LIBRARY MONTH
On a sunny Saturday this past September, Baldwin families came together for the Family Fun Fest, formerly known as Toucha-Truck, a fundraiser for the Baldwin Borough Public Library. The celebration filled the Borough building parking lot with laughter, activity, and a true sense of community, all in honor of Love Your Library Month.
From the moment people arrived, there was something to capture a child’ s imagination. The Duck Pond game drew a steady line of kids eager to fish out floating ducks and claim small prizes, while parents and grandparents looked on with smiles. At the face painting table, little ones transformed into butterflies, superheroes, and tigers, proudly showing off their designs as they darted off to play.
Baldwin’ s first responders gave the day a special spark. Baldwin Fire-Rescue invited children to climb aboard their trucks and explore the gear. The fire sirens stayed quiet, but that did not dampen the excitement. At the Baldwin Police Department’ s display, kids had the chance to sit in a patrol car and were thrilled when the officers activated the sirens for a quick demonstration. Baldwin EMS, Baldwin DPW, Missionary Auto, and Waste Management also brought vehicles for families to explore, adding to the excitement and variety of the day. The event provided numerous play opportunities. A giant sand pile became the gathering place for kids building castles
and digging for treasures. The firehouse-themed inflatable kept a line of eager jumpers bouncing all afternoon. Classic games like cornhole gave families the chance to slow down and enjoy a simple challenge side by side. Local groups, including the Kiwanis Club, added to the day with activities of their own, showing the power of neighbors working together.
The Bookmobile, operated by the Allegheny County Library Association, was another highlight as it carries on the mission of sparking curiosity and encouraging reading. Families stepped inside to browse the shelves and learn about county-wide programs. Meanwhile, Baldwin Library staff and volunteers shared information about Love Your Library Month, reminding families that every donation made in September is matched in part by the Jack Buncher Foundation.
Family Fun Fest proved once again that the library is more than a place for books. It is a space where people connect, children discover, and the community gathers to celebrate what it shares. Some came to climb on a fire truck, others to get their faces painted, or to let their kids play in the sand. Everyone left with a smile and a stronger sense of belonging.
The Baldwin Borough Public Library thanks the volunteers, organizations, and first responders who made the day possible, and most of all, the families who came out to show their support during Love Your Library Month.
