Preserving the Stories That Shape Brentwood

A look at the work of the Brentwood Historical Society

Each year since the Borough’ s Centennial celebration, the Brentwood Borough Historical Society has sponsored the Helen Owens Scholarship for graduating Brentwood High School Seniors. The essay topic— chosen by the Society’ s Board— celebrates the spirit of our hometown.
The 2025 question asked: What is the best thing about growing up in Brentwood?
Students wrote about the community’ s closeness, its walkable neighborhoods, and beloved traditions that bring generations together.
“ Brentwood is a walking community— every store, park, and hangout spot is close.”
“ The Pumpkin Patch, Easter Egg Hunt, Yard Sale Day, and Community Day bring generations together.”
“ My teachers care about my success. I wouldn’ t be who I am without their support.”
