A LOCAL LEGACY RENEWED:
Honoring Brentwood’ s Past While Shaping Its Future
When the doors open for the Brentwood Civic Center’ s grand reveal this December, visitors will find more than a renovated community space— they’ ll discover a heartfelt tribute to Brentwood’ s past.
“ It had to be all things to all people— a place where everyone feels like they belong.”
One of the highlights of the redesign is“ Sully’ s Rec Room,” a nod to Jack“ Sully” Sullivan, the beloved local figure who once operated Sully’ s Swingland— a teen dance club that brought hundreds of Brentwood youth together in the 1940 ' s through 1960 ' s. The new recreation lounge carries that same spirit of connection and fun into a modern era.
Designed by Brentwood native and interior designer Amy Winters, the lounge combines nostalgic touches, locally framed artwork, and historical displays curated with the Brentwood Historical Society. The result is a warm gathering space for all ages— one that honors Brentwood’ s story while inspiring new memories for generations to come.
Winters approached the design with both durability and a sense of history in mind. The lounge features a mix of classic and casual entertainment— shuffleboard, bubble hockey, a multi-cade arcade system, a Bluetooth jukebox, and plenty of cozy seating for cards, chess, or conversation.
Local craftsmanship and creativity play a key role throughout the building.

Pittsburgh artist Fred Bainbridge, who also created the large mural in the Borough building, contributed an original piece for the Civic Center’ s main room. Framing was handled by Framezilla, a local company that sourced materials and mat boards from area suppliers. The Brentwood Historical Society assisted with artifacts and archival photos, helping to weave the Borough’ s story throughout the renovated space.
“ It’ s been a full-circle experience,” Winter shared.“ As a Brentwood cheerleader, my feet were once on those same cinders. Now they’ re part of the story we’ re preserving.”
As the finishing touches are completed, excitement is building for the official ribbon cutting this December. Until then, residents can look forward to seeing how the Civic Center beautifully blends Brentwood’ s proud history with a fresh sense of community and possibility. The renovated space stands as both a tribute to the past and a promise for the future— a place where every generation can gather, play, and feel at home. cKeesport rentwood
