Baldwin-Whitehall SCHOOL PROJECT SEARCH PROVIDES JOB TRAINING BUZZ SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING PROPEL STUDENT SUCCESS Education in the Baldwin-Whitehall School District is holistic, integrating social and emotional learning with academic learning. One example of this approach at Paynter Elementary School is LEAP (Listen Empathize Act Problem-solve) Time. Several times a week, students actively engage in building positive relationships, managing their emotions, and learning how to make responsible decisions. These are skills that will serve students in school and throughout their lives. UPMC’s Project SEARCH is celebrating a decade of service. This program provides job training and employment. Three Baldwin High School alumni, Philip Pantuso, Danny Hall, and Tommy Mowers have participated in the program. Tommy works at Mercy Hospital as a transporter. STUDENTS MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY, ONE ACT AT A TIME Students at Whitehall Elementary are sharing their compassion and spreading kindness throughout the community! The Compassion for the Community Club, also known as Kids that Care, has met during club time at Whitehall Elementary to create special messages of encouragement and kindness. They have created items to donate to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Overlook Green, and Paramount. Students have had the opportunity to make holiday lanterns, care packages of toiletries, painted inspirational flower pots, and made other special items to bring cheer to others. 70 BRENTWOOD-BALDWIN-WHITEHALL
