Reaching New Heights at Café 8848 cKeesport rentwood
CITY BRIEFLY OF MCKEESPORT BRENTWOOD NEWS
When friends and neighbors Radhika Dangal and Laxmi Dhungana began exploring coffee shops during their travels, they never imagined those visits would inspire them to open one of their own.
The idea came during a trip to Toronto, where a visit to a matcha café sparked a conversation. Both coffee shop lovers, they were drawn to the welcoming atmosphere and sense of community. On the drive home, the dream of opening a café suddenly felt possible.
That dream became Café 8848, Brentwood ' s newest coffee shop, located in Brentwood Towne Center. The name is inspired by Mount Everest, which stands 8,848 meters above sea level in their native Nepal. For the owners, it symbolizes both their roots and the idea of reaching new heights.
Both women immigrated to the United States as teenagers in search of greater opportunities. Their experiences overcoming challenges, helping their families adapt to a new country, and building successful careers shaped the values behind the café.
Since opening on March 28, the response has been overwhelming. Dangal and Dhungana have been

working around the clock to keep up with demand, recently hiring a barista and relying on family members to help support daily operations.
The café features coffee from Pittsburgh-based 19 Coffee Company, matcha drinks, breakfast and lunch options, and locally sourced pastries, breads, cookies, and desserts. Popular menu items include the Biscoff Latte, Tiramisu Latte, and a variety of matcha beverages. Seasonal specialty drinks are also planned throughout the year.
More than a coffee shop, Café 8848 was designed as a gathering place. Students, teachers, frontline workers, families, and neighbors are all welcomed into the cozy space, which includes comfortable seating, toys for children, and a community book exchange.
Today, the storefront that sat vacant for six years has been transformed into a vibrant community destination. For Dangal and Dhungana, Café 8848 is more than a business, it ' s a reflection of perseverance, opportunity, and the community they are proud to call home.
