1931 – Ground-breaking for the new Brentwood High School is held on March 18, with more than 1,500 students and community members attending.
1932 – Ninth and 10th grade students are transferred to Brentwood High School. The new Brentwood HS opens on February 1 and on September 6 grades 8 through 11 begin attend the new school, which is dedicated on October 21. Seniors were enrolled during the 1933-34 school year.
1941 – Moore School expands with an addition that includes four new classrooms, a Kindergarten, a gymnasium and a room for art and music. A grand clock, which is now located in the Moore main office, was installed in one of the four original classrooms. The clock ran decorative bronze wall clocks in the first and second floor hallways and the bell schedule.
1947 – The Brentwood Library begins as a project of the Moore School PTA and is housed in the basement of Moore. The library would remain in Moore until 1958, when it was moved to the renovated Borough building. The new Brentwood Public Library building opened in 1990 next to Brentwood MS-HS.
1948 – St. Sylvester School opens as part of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh and operates through the 2018-19 school year. The school offered instruction for K-8 students and operated a preschool. 1955 – Elroy School is renovated. 1958 – Elroy principal Leo Harrold initiates a“ Walk for Health” movement in the community and students receive a pedometer to gauge how far they’ re walking each day, earning points in a school-wide competition. 1965 – Elroy School is renovated. 1997 – Elroy and Moore are renovated. The Moore renovation includes two new classrooms, a library, small group instruction room and an elevator. Two unique loft offices that were located above the original twin stairwells were removed to meet fire codes. One of the loft offices had been the home for the school’ s dental hygienist.
1997 – The school board announces it will hire a head principal for each elementary building. Prior to 1997, there was a principal with oversight of both schools along with either an assistant principal or reading supervisor / specialist and they would change schools and supervision throughout each week.
2014 – Moore School celebrates its 100th year serving Brentwood students.
2019 – Brentwood Borough School Board and administration begin discussions on the feasibility of consolidating Elroy and Moore into a new elementary school.
2021 – Elroy School celebrates its 100th year serving Brentwood students.
2023 – Brentwood Borough SD purchases St. Sylvester school and convent, located at the intersection of Brownsville Road and West Willock Road, for the construction of the Brentwood Elementary School.
2024 – Construction begins on Brentwood Elementary School in October.
2026 – Last day of classes are held at Elroy and Moore on June 5, 2026.
2026 – New Brentwood Elementary School is scheduled to open September 8, 2026.
