How can people get involved in
Q cancer research?
A
Enroll in clinical trials. I tell patients this all the time: the standard of care is what it is today because of patients who participated in clinical trials a few years or even a decade ago.
It’ s important for people to be their own best advocates. That means, they should make sure their tumors are getting sent for genetic testing, that they’ re getting the most state-of-the-art standard of care, and exploring options in terms of potential clinical research that could give them access to the next wave standard of care.
Doctors understand that you need to explore what’ s best for you. And patient advocacy groups generally recommend that when there is any question about your diagnosis, you should seek a second opinion. So, it’ s worth making an appointment to know that you’ re receiving the most appropriate course of treatment or if there are other options that better meet your needs.
