Mrs . Brown also recalls moving her portable piano from classroom to classroom for music class . No Promethean boards , one-to-one technology or internet back then , she was only armed with chalk and a chalkboard for instructing her classes .
For 21 years , Mrs . Brown dedicated herself to nurturing the budding talents of Brentwood ' s youth . In 1986 , as the final notes of her teaching career echoed through the halls , Mrs . Brown bid farewell to Brentwood , retiring with a heart full of memories of the countless lives she had touched . Since her retirement , Mrs . Brown fills her time by visiting the Brentwood pool in the summer and taking trips to the beach with her family . Brentwood is known to be a tight-knit community and it is because of the friendliness of people like Mrs . Marian Brown that entices people to join our community . Happy Birthday , Mrs . Brown !
THERAPETS IN THE CLASSROOM ! OWEN-PETEY BRINGS HIS LOVE TO MOORE AND ELROY
This year , both Moore and Elroy Elementary Schools received visits from Therapy Dog Owen-Petey and his human partner , Allison Pegg . Owen is a 115lb Golden Retriever , who loves to spend time with our students . Owen visits each Elementary school approximately once a month and spends 2 ½ hours visiting classrooms or hanging out in the School Counseling office with Mrs . Kauric . Students can spend some one-on-one time with Owen during this time .
Therapy animals have a broader role than service animals or emotional support animals as they are trained to provide companionship , affection and support to those in need . Owen began his training with Therapets as a puppy in 2019 . Owen and Allison worked their way through Puppy Preschool and obedience classes becoming a certified Therapet team with Animal Friends in 2023 . Owen and Allison volunteer their time , receiving only love in return for their visits . Owen is a Brentwood resident , and our students enjoy running into him in the community as well as at school .
The positive impact of Owen in our classrooms can be seen almost immediately upon his arrival . The students are thrilled to see him , bringing a smile to every face . Students are often given the opportunity to pet Owen , which reduces stress , encourages student engagement , and increases positive peer interactions . Owen brings a calming effect to the classroom . Most often students will sit on the floor around him , taking turns petting him and engaging in conversation . Owen is a great listener !
