Third-grade students at R . A . Lutz Elementary enjoyed a visit from geologist Jeff Smith , fondly known as “ Jeff the Geode Guy .” Mr . Smith shared his adventures exploring geode mines in Mexico . After learning about the formation and mining of geodes , each student got to take home a geode for themselves .

OLD MACDONALD HAD A FARM ... IN KINDERGARTEN
Baldwin High School student Shea Ferrari stepped into the studio at KDKA to shadow Mikey Hood , learning about the process of researching , writing , and filming segments for Pittsburgh Today Live . Ferrari shares , “ I enjoyed watching the guests on the show get to share their experiences and businesses . It seemed very rewarding to be able to give people the opportunity to get the word out about something they care deeply about .” She was so inspired by her job shadowing experience that she has changed her major to Communications and aspires to work in journalism .
THEATER ARTS WORKSHOP
The song “ Old MacDonald ” can be heard all over McAnnulty Elementary as kindergarten students have been learning tractor loads about farms ! Students have been studying farm animals , learning about their lifestyle , diet , and role on the farm .

Recently , a group of Baldwin Middle School students participated in a theater arts workshop at the Byham Theater in downtown Pittsburgh . Teens participated in sessions on choreography , play writing , stage combat , and hair and make up design . These hands-on workshops focused on career-readiness and what is needed to be successful for a career in the arts .
