STUDENT TALENT SHINES IN BALDWIN HIGH
SCHOOL PRESENTATION OF MAME
This spring, Baldwin High School
performed the musical Mame. The
performance follows eccentric socialite
Mame Dennis whose life of leisure and
luxury is interrupted when her brother
dies and her young nephew Patrick comes
to live with her. Mame must learn how
to be a parent and the play traces her
attempts with warmth and humor.
The play boasted a cast of over 60
and the production level that audiences
have come to expect from BHS musicals,
including stunning visuals and set that
garnered a Gene Kelly nomination. The
production featured Morgan Traud as
Mame; Alexa Trimbur as Vera; Sarah Doran
as Agnes Gooch; Liam Coll as the young
Patrick; and Chris Storms as older Patrick.
Senior Morgan Traud won a Gene Kelly
Award for her depiction of Mame. Coll
notes that Traud’s win was well-earned.
“Mame is one of the most demanding
roles for women in the musical theater
canon,” says Coll. “Megan was fantastic.
She was one of many talented seniors in
this year’s production. It’s sad to see them
go, but they were all featured in a great
way.” Traud plans to study musical theater
at Long Island University.
