A MESSAGE FROM

Superintendent of Schools, Baldwin-Whitehall School District
Taking Pride in Our Progress
Dear Friends and Family of Baldwin-Whitehall,
This May, the Pittsburgh Business Times released its 2019
rankings of the region’s school districts, and our District has some
big news to celebrate. Our Baldwin-Whitehall School District
earned the #36 ranking out of the region’s 102 school districts,
up 7 spots from last year, and ranked 19th among Allegheny
County’s 43 districts. Our rise at the statewide level is even
greater: we earned the #145 spot out of the state’s 500 school
districts, an improvement of 42 places above our 2018 ranking.
It also proves that our commitment to providing individualized
learning solutions for our students, professional development
plans for our faculty, and conscientious investment of our
To remain forward-thinking, we also know that we can
continue to improve. I do not see these numbers as our peak,
but as an indicator that we are headed in the right direction.
I look forward to working with our administration, our faculty,
our school board, our parents, and our community members to
ensure that Baldwin-Whitehall remains a school district on the
rise for years to come.
Thank you for all you do to make our growth and improvement
possible. I hope you are as proud of our District, our teachers, and
our students as I am — and I hope you are as excited as I am to
see just how much further we can go.
Sincerely,
Dr. Randal A. Lutz

LETTER FROM
David J. Solenday
As your superintendent, I am beyond thrilled at these
numbers, placing us within the top one-third of all schools both
regionally and state-wide. Also significant is that we are in good
company. The schools located within Allegheny County are
among the highest performing regions in the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, which means that great things are happening here
and we are at the heart of it all.
resources in new technologies and programs is having a huge
impact on our students’ growth and our region’s future.

Ending the School Year on a High Note
Dear Baldwin-Whitehall Community Members,
Another school year has come to an end, and with it comes a flurry
of “Thank-You!” notes and “Congratulations!” cards. There simply aren’t
enough stamps for all of the notes and cards I’d like to send, so instead
I’ll say:
Thank you to all of our school board members. Your dedication to
providing our students with an excellent education has helped them
continue to improve academically while still making efficient use of
taxpayer funds — which is the whole reason for our continuing role as
stewards.
Thank you to our teachers and staff for making our classrooms safe
and welcoming environments for our students. Judging by Baldwin-
Whitehall’s huge leap forward in the annual statewide school district
rankings, your efforts are making a big impact.
Thank you to our administration for working with the faculty and
the school board to find the best solutions, both academically and

financially, to keep our District moving forward one year — and one
student — at a time.
Thank you to our community of parents and citizens within the
Baldwin-Whitehall School District. Your voices, ideas, contributions and
support create a strong foundation upon which our schools can thrive.
And finally, congratulations to all of our graduates, from pre-school to
senior year! You worked hard, practiced, studied, and strived to do your
best this year, and you’ve learned many important lessons that you’ll
never forget. (Hopefully, you’ve also had some fun along the way!)
Best wishes for a well-earned summer break, before next year’s even
bigger adventures begin….
Yours in Highlander spirit,
David J. Solenday
