PARAMOUNT
SENIOR LIVING
to Open its Second
Skilled Nursing
and Rehabilitation
Unit in the South Hills
A
ny senior who’s needed
rehabilitation to get
back on their feet after
an injury or routine medical
procedure knows that being
lumped in with long-term
residents at the nearest nursing
home for a few weeks is less
than ideal.
That’s why Paramount Senior
Living is opening a short-term,
17-bed skilled nursing unit
this spring designed from
the ground up to be your home away from home while you recover
without dropping you into a long-term care environment. The new
unit will be located in Baldwin Borough on the site of the former
Sickman School at the corner of Brownsville and Knoedler Roads.
“We like to refer to it as the ‘the Hilton of healthcare,’” said
Chase Darmstadter, Director of Acquisitions and Development for
Paramount, which currently operates a similar rehabilitation unit on
its Peters Township campus that has seen tremendous success in its
innovation to the rehabilitation process.
“People here are going home in 10 days, three weeks at the longest.
We have rehabilitation services on site seven days a week and the
maximum number of patients at any one time is 17. The spacious
accommodations feature 12ft.-high ceilings and are configured in a
way to maximize privacy and comfort.”
And it’s not just Paramount staff taking notice: Paramount’s Peters
Township unit boasts a 5-star Medicare rating for staffing, and has

been ranked among Highmark’s providers as 1st in the market and 5th
in the state of Pennsylvania for rehabilitation excellence and overall
outcomes.
“Every staff member is attentive to our patients to ensure they have
everything they need. Nobody’s forgotten and no detail is overlooked,”
Darmstadter said. “We have professional chefs cooking individualized
meals for our patients to eat in a sit-down dining room, not cold food
on trays delivered to their rooms. There’s really nothing like what
we’re doing around. We’re pioneers and innovators in this space
right now. And the results support what we do—people who seek
rehabilitation in the traditional setting oftentimes end up giving
up and going home or not thriving because they don’t like the
environment they’re placed in.”
While the new unit will be on Paramount’s existing campus in the
South Hills, Baldwin location, it’s a completely separate unit, with its
own entrance. Rehabilitation
