FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS DESIGN A NEW CLASSROOM
As part of an enrichment opportunity connected to the opening of the new Brentwood Elementary School, a group of Moore 4th grade students participated in a project-based learning experience titled, Design a New Classroom. In this real-world math and science project, students took on the role of classroom designers, using mathematical reasoning to plan a functional learning space for students and teachers.
Throughout the project, students applied grade-level math skills, such as measurement conversions, multistep problem solving, multiplication comparisons and time calculations. Using actual classroom dimensions, desk sizes and student numbers, they determined seating arrangements, usable floor space and daily schedules. Every design
STUDENTS CREATE VIDEOS AFTER ENERGY TRANSFER UNIT
As a culminating project for their Open SciEd unit on Energy Transfer, Moore students demonstrated their understanding in a creative and engaging way— by producing short educational videos using Canva. This conclusion project allowed students to apply key scientific vocabulary and concepts while developing important communication and technology skills.
Working independently or in small groups, students selected essential terms from the unit— such as energy, energy transfer, collusion, motion,— and created short videos that explained each concept using visuals, text and narration. Canva provided an accessible platform for students to design professional-looking videos while focusing on accuracy and clarity of scientific content.
choice had to be justified with clear mathematical evidence, encouraging students to think critically and explain their reasoning.
The project also connected to science learning, as students explored how buildings function— particularly in relation to electricity and infrastructure— helping them understand what happens behind the walls of a school. By linking math, science, and real-life applications, the project allowed students to see how academic skills are used beyond the classroom.
This enrichment experience not only strengthened problem-solving and collaboration skills, but also helped students feel connected to the exciting transition into a new state-of-the-art school by making learning meaningful, hands-on and authentic.
