COMMUNITY POLICE NEWS
We are proud to announce that two officers were promoted to sergeants in December .
Sgt . Jeff Egan has been with our department for 20 years . Prior to Baldwin , he worked his way through the Mon-Valley and then spent four years with the City of Pittsburgh Police Department . Sgt . Egan has been a Field Training Officer and is currently a Range Officer . In his free time , Jeff and his wife enjoy watching their children compete in various sports and spending time in the mountains . We are fortunate to have Sergeant Egan as part of our Leadership Team .
Sgt . Lou Parrotta has been with our department for 22 years . Prior to Baldwin he worked for the Verona Police Department . Sgt . Parrotta ’ s first passion was with his family ’ s auto repair business . Spending hours watching COPS developed into his passion for police work . He was previously part of our K-9 department with his dog , Niko . Sgt . Parrotta lists this as one of his favorite assignments , working with his canine partner . More recently , Sgt . Parrotta has been overseeing our Field Training Officers , coordinating the South Hills DUI Task Force , taking over the duties as coordinator of this unit . As he winds down his career , Sgt . Parrotta is looking forward to teaching our next generation of officers and his continued service to the residents of Baldwin Borough . We are fortunate to have Sergeant Parrotta as part of our Leadership Team .

ACCREDITATIONS COMMUNITY WELLNESS EVENT
Our Police Department has maintained two professional accreditations since 2016 . On March 18th , a team from around the country will again be here to assess every aspect of the Police Department operations . We are hopeful to receive our CALEA re-accreditation in March and our PLEAC re-accreditation in June . Please join us on Thursday , May 2nd from 6pm-8pm in the auditorium at the Baldwin Municipal Building for a community resource & wellness event , organized by Samantha Yule , Social Service Coordinator . The purpose of this event is to bring in various resources and programs for quick and easy access for the community . The agencies will discuss what their organization has to offer to members of the Baldwin Borough Community . Resources available will range from information on enrolling in medical assistance , programs for aging adults and seniors , volunteer opportunities , and summer safety resources . We are still working to finalize the agencies who will be present and more information will be provided closer to the event . The life and memory of Officer Sean Sluganski was honored at a candlelight vigil , held at the Baldwin Borough Building , on February 6th , which was the first anniversary of Officer Sluganski ' s death . A crowd made up of family , friends and fellow officers came out to support their fallen hero by sharing memories and lighting candles in his honor . Officer Sluganski was raised in Baldwin Borough and grew up not far from the Borough Building . Baldwin Mayor Dave Depretis and Human Resources Officer Kelly Divins , a personal friend of Sluganski and his family , offered words of remembrance at the event . It was a memorable evening honoring a remarkable person and an Officer gone too soon .
