Baldwin-Whitehall SCHOOL BUZZ Calling for Volunteer Panelists Be part of a special tradition for the Class of 2020 Best Buddies International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). On November 18th, Best Buddies hosted their annual fundraiser, “Tastebuds,” at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Tastebuds is a unique event that features talented chefs from restaurants around the greater Pittsburgh area serving signature dishes, while showing the power and positivity of friendship. The chefs teamed up with a buddy who served as the “sous chef” for the evening. Baldwin High School student, Kaitlyn Anderson, was a sous chef and was paired with chef, Dustin Gardner, from Casbah. BALDWIN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT PAIRED WITH CHEF OF CASBAH FOR TASTEBUDS EVENT DANIEL SHANER SERVING ON TEACHER ADVISORY COUNCIL TO THE STATEWIDE HOLOCAUST, GENOCIDE, AND HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION INITIATIVE Harrison Middle School teacher, Daniel Shaner, has accepted a position on the Teacher Advisory Council to the statewide Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education Initiative. Penn State has partnered with the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Act 70 Advisory Board to provide innovative training to teachers. Organizers note that this a program built for and with teachers. Many teachers find teaching about the Holocaust to be daunting, and this group provides resources and training. 70 BRENTWOOD-BALDWIN-WHITEHALL Members of the community are invited to participate in an inspiring day as a panelist for Baldwin High School’s Class of 2020 Senior Exit Interviews. We hope to match community members in a senior student’s career field of interest to create a meaningful realistic experience. What you’ll do: Serve on a panel of an individual high school senior as they present on who they’ve become during their life journey so far, and what they plan to do after graduation. We are looking for a wide variety of careers to be represented (plumbers, lawyers, nurses, real estate agents, retirees in any industry, homemakers, etc.). Students are looking for feedback from community members on their future career plans! When you’ll do it: May 22, 2020 in Baldwin High School’s auditorium. The day begins at 8AM and concludes at 3:30PM. Community members can volunteer for a single interview time slot (45 minutes in length) or be part of the entire day. Sign up ASAP! Community members can register by calling Janet Moik, 412-885-7261 or emailing her at [email protected]
