Dear Baldwin Borough Resident: Baldwin Borough provides a comprehensive solid waste program designed to encourage recycling and waste reduction, reduce litter in our neighborhoods and ensure that waste is disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. This guide includes various services that are available to residents. Waste Management pledges to provide the high-quality service residents expect and deserve. REGULAR CURBSIDE COLLECTION Baldwin Borough contracts with Waste Management as the waste and recycling hauler for residents. Garbage will be collected once every week and recycling will be collected every other week according to the attached street listing and calendar. Place material at the curb after 6 p.m. on the prior day or before 6 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Please reference the street listing for your recycling service week. GENERAL GUIDELINES • Garbage should be properly secured in containers or plastic bags, weighing 50 pounds or less. Place garbage at 2019 Recycling Program Changes Due to global changes in the recycling industry, Waste Management is asking your community to help combat recycling contamination. You will experience some changes in your curbside recycling collection program. For programs to be successful, all participants must make an effort to change recycling habits. No plastic bags of any kind will be accepted. Please place material loose in your recycling bin or cart. • Make sure you are only recycling plastic bottles, jugs and jars. • Any other plastic shape must go in the trash. • Glass is no longer accepted for recycling. Glass runs hard on our machines and can contaminate other good recyclables. • Containers that held food should be rinsed free of food debris and liquid. • Shredded paper is no longer accepted. curbside, in one area, and do not exceed 15 bags/ cans and 1 bulk item per week. • Grass clippings and weeds should be in plastic bags. These items may include paints, household cleaners, compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), automotive products, garden chemicals, batteries, electronics, and more. The materials accepted through this program include: AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS ELECTRONICS Antifreeze, batteries, brake fluid, TVs, computers, monitors, keyboards, motor oil and filters, fuels and more DVD players, VHS players, GARDEN CHEMICALS microwaves and cell phones Fertilizers, herbicides, insect sprays, SWIMMING POOL CHEMICALS pesticides and weed killers Chlorine tablets and liquid, pool acid HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS and stabilizer Ammonia, heavy-duty cleaners, naval UNIVERSAL MATERIALS jelly, strippers and tile remover Batteries, lamps, thermometers and PAINT PRODUCTS more Caulk, glue, paint, stripper, stain, thinner, and wood preservative We do not accept ammunition, pharmaceuticals, explosives, asbestos, cooking oil, pressurized cylinders, tires or any materials in unlabeled or leaking containers. Recycling and Waste Management ALWAYS RECYCLE: • PAPER • FOOD & BEVERAGE CANS Steel, tin & aluminum soda, vegetable, fruit and tuna cans • PLASTIC BOTTLES, JARS & JUGS (narrow neck containers labeled #1 and #2) • FLATTENED CARDBOARD AND PAPERBOARD DO NOT include in your mixed recycling cart: • NO Food Waste (Compost instead) • NO Plastic Bags & Film (Find a recycling site at plasticfilmrecycling.org) • NO Foam Cups & Containers (Check Earth911.org for options) • NO Glass Bottles & Containers • NO Needles (Keep medical waste out of recycling. Place in a safe disposal container like Waste Management’s MedWaste Tracker bx.) • NO BAGGED RECYCLABLES • Furniture items, appliances, household goods and disassembled children’s swing sets (cut to 4-foot length) will be accepted at curbside. • Carpet should be rolled and tied in lengths not to exceed 48 inches so that one man can lift. BACK DOOR SERVICE IS AVAILABLE TO ALL RESIDENTS FOR A FEE OF: $19.25 PER QTR. This is for those residents who are unable to get their trash to the curbside for pick up.
